Local sourcing is at the heart of what we do at The Walled Garden.
We are situated in a Victorian Walled Garden which means that the majority of our vegetables, salad and fruits carry literally no food miles, whilst our shellfish travels a mere two miles up the road from the pier in Ard-Dubh, where our local fisherman lands. From prawns and lobster to crabs and squats, it would be hard to find fresher.
Our meat is generally supplied by local crofters and last year we even got a couple of our own pigs, who very happily live in Culduie. Towards the end of the summer we obtain venison from the Applecross Estate that we butcher in-house. Whilst our tried and tested seafood and meat dishes are extremely popular, we appreciate that we are living in an ever more veggie world and always have options to cater for vegans and vegetarians.
Our Walled Garden is the perfect place to slow down and relax with a treat. All our cakes are homemade, and our scones have even been awarded a high score of 9/10 by the British Scone Appreciation Society (yes, that’s a thing!). We use Inverness Coffee Roasters coffee beans and a serve a wide range of teas throughout the day.
If you are after a quick bite, with a bowl of homemade soup, or something a bit more substantial – perhaps some local seafood and a bottle of our carefully selected wine – we do our very best to offer something for everyone.
Our salads are grown in the garden and bread is homemade every morning by owner Jon or Debs, our in-house baker. With plenty outdoor seating, lunch on a sunny day in our secret oasis is bliss. Of course, if the weather does what Scottish weather tends to do – we have a wood burning stove inside! Either way, you can enjoy your meal, unhurried, in a truly unique setting.
When the candles come out and the evening playlist goes on, things get pretty special at the Walled Garden. For nearly 20 years now, we strive to deliver an experience somewhere between totally unpretentious and a little bit fancy which we achieve with Ikea cutlery alongside high-quality, Michelin Guide recommended food.
There is something for everyone, whether it’s an early meal with the kids or a romantic meal for two, we are passionate about making sure your evening is memorable (that is, if you don’t get carried away with our carefully picked wine, whisky, gin and local craft ale selection).
To accompany your meal, we have a fine selection of carefully picked wines, or enjoy a glass in the gardens on a fine day. We also offer Scottish gins and vodkas as well as locally brewed craft ales. And of course you can always taste our great selection of Scotch whiskies or coorie doon with a hot toddy by the cosy fire in cooler weather.
